The 2024 Paris Olympics are getting a cool makeover with some exciting new additions! Imagine a mix of street culture, high-energy dance moves, and intense athleticism, and you’ll get a taste of the new sports on the menu.
The biggest star of the show is breakdancing. You’ve probably seen it in movies or on YouTube, and now it’s officially an Olympic sport! Think of it like a dance battle, but way more intense and skillful. Breakdancers, or “breakers,” use their bodies like machines, spinning, twisting, and flipping to create awesome routines that will blow your mind.
But that’s not all! The Paris Olympics will also feature four sports that first debuted in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. These include:
- Skateboarding: It’s like the Olympics, but with awesome tricks and cool moves on a board! Skateboarders will compete in both “street” and “park” disciplines, which means they’ll be showcasing their skills on everything from ramps and rails to sidewalks and skateparks.
- Sport Climbing: Think of this as a super exciting race against the clock, but instead of running, you’re scaling walls! Athletes will compete in three different disciplines: bouldering (climbing short, challenging walls), speed climbing (racing up a wall as fast as possible), and lead climbing (climbing the highest they can in a set amount of time).
- Surfing: It’s like a dance with the waves, only way more thrilling! Surfers will compete in events based on the skill, style, and technical proficiency of their wave riding. Imagine the adrenaline rush of riding waves with a combination of power, speed, and technical maneuvers.
