How to take a screenshot on Windows?

Taking a screenshot on Windows is a breeze! Here are the different methods you can use:

  1. Using Keyboard Shortcuts:
    • Entire Screen: Press the Print Screen (PrtScn) key. This will copy the entire screen to your clipboard. You can then paste it into an image editor like Paint or a document like Word.
    • Active Window: Press Alt + Print Screen (PrtScn). This will capture only the active window and copy it to your clipboard.
    • Specific Area: Press Windows + Shift + S. Your screen will dim, and your cursor will turn into a crosshair. Click and drag to select the area you want to capture. The screenshot will be copied to your clipboard.
  2. Using the Snipping Tool:
    • Search for “Snipping Tool” in the Windows search bar and open it.
    • You’ll see a panel with different options:
      • New: Click this to start a new snip.
      • Mode: Choose the type of snip you want:
        • Free-form: Draw a freehand shape around the area you want to capture.
        • Rectangular: Drag a rectangle around the area you want to capture.
        • Window: Select a specific window to capture.
        • Fullscreen: Capture the entire screen.
      • Delay: Set a timer to capture the screen after a delay.
      • Pen: Draw or highlight on the screenshot after capturing it.
      • Save: Save the screenshot to your computer.
  3. Using the Xbox Game Bar:
    • Press Windows + G to open the Xbox Game Bar.
    • Click the Capture icon (a camera) and choose from the following options:
      • Screenshot: Capture the entire screen.
      • Record: Record a video of your screen.
      • Capture a specific area: Select the area you want to capture.

Bonus Tip: If you want to save a screenshot directly to your Pictures folder, press Windows + Print Screen (PrtScn). This will automatically save the screenshot as a PNG file in your “Screenshots” folder.
